This modest extension to a family home near Southsea explores the use of a pitched form to give height and generous natural light to the new kitchen, entrance hallway and dining room in contrast to the low ceilings and modest windows in the existing dwelling.
The brief for this project began with the ambition to change the external aesthetics to be more modern in appearance but with careful consideration of retaining the individuality of the existing form.
On the outside a simple material palette of vertical timber cladding and natural slate created a modern look whilst retaining the characterful parts of the existing house that we could create a far more interesting design.
